Dental Implants Process

Before dental implants can be recommended for your smile, a complimentary thorough consultation and assessment must be performed. This is required to reduce the risk of dental implant failure as much as possible. We will go over your current oral health status, medical history, budget, and preferences to determine if you’re a good candidate. Bone graft procedures are sometimes necessary to restore jawbone health before an implant can be placed, which we can complete in-house.

Implant Placement

Getting a titanium post placed in your jawbone is a big step in the dental implant process. Your teeth and gums will be thoroughly numbed with a local anesthetic to help your treatment be as comfortable as possible. Then, a small incision will be made in your gums so your jawbone can be accessed. A hole will be created in your jawbone, an implant post will be placed, and the gums will be replaced around the post. A temporary crown can be placed on the implant to provide you with a complete smile while your custom crown is designed and created.

Implant Crown Attachment

Patients are sometimes surprised to learn that dental implants are not completed in one appointment. Once your titanium implant post has been placed in your jawbone, an important process called osseointegration must occur. This is when the implant will fuse with the bone. This step in the dental implant process is crucial, as dental implants need to be securely in place so they can function properly. At your follow-up visit, we will assess your implant post to ensure the healing process is complete before attaching a custom implant crown to the top.

Proper Care for Your Tooth Replacement

Dental implants look and feel similarly to natural teeth. Although your artificial tooth can decay, you still need brush and floss as if it were a natural tooth. This will keep your gums, jawbone, and remaining natural teeth healthy and strong. Additionally, you consume a balanced diet, drink plenty of water, and visit our office for regular dental checkups and cleanings.
